OMOWA: Greetings, I am Omowa from Igarra, Akoko, Edo Local Government Area, Edo State. Since my verification in 2019 by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) in Benin City, I had been receiving my monthly pension without issues. However, starting in October, I noticed a deduction of N27,262.91 from my payments. I kindly request assistance in resolving this matter. Thank you.

OYELAKIN: My name is Oyelakin. I retired on July 31, 2002, after being employed on December 2, 1970. Despite my federal pension being initiated in September 2010, arrears for the period of August 2002 to August 2010 remain unpaid. Despite multiple attempts to have these arrears addressed, including submitting bank statements to verify my claims, the issue persists. I kindly seek your intervention. Thank you.

ADUEMA: Good day. My name is Aduema. My mother, a pensioner, has not received her gratuity since retiring, although her pension has been consistent. Her peers have already received theirs. Due to her health issues, she is unable to follow up actively. I request assistance on her behalf.

MRS ADEBOWALE: Good day. Please inform me about the commencement date for the verification of retired primary school teachers

AYODELE: Greetings. My concern relates to the underpayment of my monthly pension. Despite submitting complaints to PTAD three weeks ago, I am yet to receive a response or acknowledgment. Last October, I was shocked by a deduction of N48,861.19 from my pension of N154,015.36, citing overpayment, which was not communicated beforehand.

I retired from the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research in Kaduna in 2005, earning N92,170.75 in monthly pensions. Subsequent increments over the years, including the 15% in 2007, 33% in 2010, and another adjustment in April 2019, eventually brought my pension to N154,015.36. However, deductions began in October 2023, with no justification aligning with my calculations. The amount owed to me as of April 2024 is N342,028.33.

These deductions have caused significant financial hardship, particularly for pensioners like myself who rely heavily on their payments. I urge PTAD to expedite the reversal of these deductions and promptly refund the withheld amount. I also appeal to the review committee established last year to address these grievances comprehensively. Thank you for your understanding

BUSINESSDAY: Supporting Pensioners’ Causes

The Nation newspaper will forward these complaints to PTAD for resolution. OMOWA, OYELAKIN, ADUEMA, MRS ADEBOWALE, and AYODELE are encouraged to monitor the pension page on Wednesdays for PTAD’s responses. Updates on pension matters will also be featured weekly.
