The House of Representatives has commended the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) for its significant contributions to the welfare of retirees, including the disbursement of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits for Federal Government employees exempted from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
This acknowledgment came on Monday during an oversight visit by the House Committee on Pensions, chaired by Hussaini Mohammed Jallo, to PTAD’s headquarters. The visit underscored the legislature’s commitment to supporting the Directorate in achieving its mandate. Jallo highlighted the Committee’s role in ensuring accountability, promoting collaboration, and securing adequate funding to address the needs of pensioners under PTAD’s care. He congratulated the newly appointed Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, urging her to foster a strong working relationship with the Committee to address challenges, enhance service delivery, and uphold high standards of integrity within the pension industry. “Together, we can drive impactful changes and elevate excellence not just within PTAD, but across the pension sector as a whole,” Jallo remarked.
In her response, Odunaiya expressed gratitude for the Committee’s unwavering support and pledged to maintain PTAD’s trajectory of excellence. She emphasized the importance of sustaining a positive and mutually beneficial relationship between the Directorate and the Committee to benefit pensioners. Odunaiya outlined PTAD’s recent accomplishments, including the timely payment of monthly pensions, the inauguration of a new state office in Ilorin, Kwara State, and the settlement of arrears for certain pensioners as approved by the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission. Additionally, she noted the payment of gratuities and death benefits to retirees and the Next-of-Kin of deceased pensioners, reaffirming PTAD’s commitment to its mandate.
The visit underscored a shared dedication to ensuring that retired public servants receive the support and recognition they deserve, with both the House Committee and PTAD reaffirming their commitment to advancing the welfare of Nigeria’s pensioners.
